· Welcome and Introductions · Participant Introductions · Introduction and Unit Overview · Disasters and Disaster Workers · Impact of disasters on infrastructures · The role of Cert's in disaster response · Introduction to disasters · Personal preparedness demonstration · Hazards posed by building structures and nonstructural items
Day 2 – Wednesday, 17 September 2008 (6pm—10pm) Disaster Fire Suppression - Module 2 · Hazardous Materials · Terrorism awareness information
Day 3 – Thursday, 18 September 2008 (6pm—10pm) Disaster Fire Suppression / Disaster Medical Operations – Module 2/3 · Identifying and reducing potential fire hazards · Basic fire suppression strategy · Firefighting resources & techniques · Live fire exercise · Treatment strategies for life-threatening conditions · Principles of triage · Head-to-toe assessments · Establishing treatment areas · Treatments for burns, lacerations, fractures and other injuries
Day 4 – Friday, 19 September 2008 (6pm—10pm) Light Search and Rescue – Module 4 · Search and rescue priorities and resources · Techniques for situation size-up · Lifting and victim removal techniques exercise · Rescuer safety; recognizing limitations and construction hazards · Cribbing and leveraging exercise
Day 4 – Saturday, 20 Septmeber 2008 (8am—5pm) Disaster Psychology and Team Organization – Module 5 · The post-disaster emotional environment · CERT organization; Incident Command System (ICS) · CERT decision making and documentation
Disaster Simulation and Review – Module 6 · Disaster simulation drill · Course review · Final Exam · Graduation; Oath; issuance of CERT gear and certificate
